Bio of the day:

I am a writer and artist and stay-at-home dad. My work tends toward the speculative, spiritual, and experimental because that is what I love to read and love to write. I have been in graduate school for a long time and am looking to cap it all off soon with a PhD in religion from the University of Denver and a dissertation on vulnerable reading.

My work has many forms. I write poetry and fiction and essays; collate visual poetry and text-based art from my own writing and that of others; do calligraphy-inspired brush art. My academic work sits at the intersection of religion, philosophy, and poetics, and as a whole has an emphasis on application. I like to write and perform music and poetry for family and friends.

In a past writing life I wrote for outdoor sports magazines and websites, including Backpacker, ESPN.com, Elevation Outdoors, Women’s Adventure, and Skiing. I’ve presented at academic conferences and taught in various settings. I’ve enjoyed a few blogging experiments and adventures. Perhaps I’ll do all or none of these things again.

When not writing, I love spending time with my wife and kids. They are my treasures and an infinite source of joy and learning. I also like to play the banjo and to be moving my body, preferably outside, in whatever form I can get it.
